🇨🇦 The $20k weekend in Canada 🇨🇦

I just spent $20k on a weekend in Canada

So you’re probably thinking first-class flight, 5-star hotel, limos, fancy dinners, and buying Labubus for everyone.

But it was slightly less exciting than that, and I didn’t even go!

Here’s what happened:

We’re on a mission to double our auto repair business revenue to $100M/year (without doubling store count)

Our plan is to massively improve the customer experience, which should result in a massive sales increase.

We need to change a few things for it to work.

These aren’t small changes either.

We’re asking our team to unlearn “industry norms” that most guys have been doing their entire careers.

This would’ve been way easier when I had a few stores.

But as a company gets bigger, changing habits becomes exponentially more difficult.

So we spent $20,000 sending 8 leaders (both Store & District Managers) to a weekend training session in Canada.

We could have easily done a Teams call and said, “Alright guys, here’s our new phone script. Place a copy next to your phone”.

Training ✔️

But that’s not how people learn.

They learn by doing. They learn by standing in front of a group of strangers and role-playing the scripts until they get it right.

They learn by role-playing on a Teams call every morning for 15 minutes before the doors open.

It’s now been one week since they returned from Canada, and the results are stunning.

That group has a significant uptick in energy and sales. Other Store Managers are seeing this and asking to be part of it.

Instead of us PUSHING the training upon people, they are PULLING it.

How much time and money are you investing in training your people?

I bet you could do more.

Cheers!

Brian
