In 2016, I would drive down to Philadelphia every month for Chamber of Commerce meetings.
Earlier that year, I bought two Midas Auto Repair franchises, so I was excited to meet other local business owners
Specifically, the ones who owned fleets of commercial vehicles.
After introducing myself (“Brian Beers… like the drink”), I’d tell them I owned a few local auto repair shops.
I could see their interest drop immediately after I told them it was Midas.
Then we both suffered a few minutes of awkward small talk until they walked away.
It felt like they were thinking: “Franchises? That’s cute…”
Sheldon also agrees, saying that real entrepreneurs build unique brands
Luckily for my bank account, I care very little about what other people think
I rolled my profits into acquiring more shops almost every year since 2016, creating a massive flywheel.
Today, I’m using that cash flow to build an entire portfolio of franchise-related investments by partnering with other franchisees, investing in emerging franchisors, and buying commercial real estate.
And as for Sheldon, here’s what I told him:
I agree that Franchisees aren't building anything unique. They aren't inventing anything or solving any new problems.
But we are doing something important. We create jobs and serve a need for our communities.
People like doing business with franchises because of familiarity.
A Jersey Mike's #7 is gonna taste the same in Philly & Texas.
They can swing by any Planet Fitness when traveling.
And the peace of mind of knowing every Midas in the country will honor their warranty.
Inventors, creators, and risk-takers are critical to our country.
But that's a very small percentage. Most people hate feeling trapped in their jobs and want a path to write their own story.
Franchising is one option. It's great for people who say, "just show me how to make money and I'll do it"
So if you don’t care about building something unique or reinventing the wheel…
Then book a discovery call with my team to see if owning franchises is right for you.
Cheers!
Brian
