Act like you already own 20 franchises


I was on a call with a franchisee earlier this year who owned 3 units.

He's been stuck there for 18 months.

The conversation began normally, with a discussion about his numbers, his team, and his growth plans.

But then something weird happened.

When I asked about expansion, he started apologizing for everything.

"Well, I know I should probably have more locations by now..."

"I'm not sure if I'm ready for the complexity of managing more..."

"Maybe I should wait until these are running perfectly..."

By the end of the call, this guy who's generating $2M in revenue was talking like he just started his first lemonade stand.

Here's what I told him:

Stop acting like someone who's lucky to own 3 franchises.

Start acting like someone who's building toward 20.

Most franchisees get stuck because they're operating from their current reality instead of their inevitable future self.

This reminds me of something I read in Ben Hardy's book, Be Your Future Self Now

Hardy talks about how most people make decisions based on who they were or who they are today.

But the most successful people?

They make decisions based on who they're becoming.

They start becoming their future self today.

When you own 3 locations, it’s easy to think like a 3-location owner.

Worrying about all the little things.

Hesitating on hiring decisions.

Second-guessing expansion opportunities.

But here's the thing.... you've already proved you can build this business.

You've already solved some of the hardest challenges.

So why are you still making decisions like you're starting from zero?

What changes when you shift

I told this franchisee to start every decision with: "What would I do if I already owned 20 locations?"

His response: "I'd have a lot more confidence in growing the business."

Within 6 weeks, he:

  • Signed an LOI on #4
  • Hired an operations manager
  • Stopped micromanaging his team

Plus, he's working on a deal that could more than double this business

Not because the market changed.

Because HE changed.

All of the answers are inside of us.

We need to find a way to unlock them.

That future version of you running an 8-figure franchise?

They aren’t waiting in some distant future.

You just have to let them make your next decision.

You've already proven you can do this.

Stop pretending you haven't.
