What's the worst that could happen?

John said something that stopped me cold.

We were discussing his transition from a software sales job to franchise ownership.

He’s making $200k/year but working crazy hours, missing his kids’ events, and feeling completely burned out.

Here’s what he told me:

“Brian, I keep asking myself ‘what’s the worst that could happen?’ If the franchise doesn’t work out, I sell it, and we lose some money.

"Then, with my tail between my legs, I end up back at another software company doing the exact same thing I’m doing today.”

"But at least I know I tried. I gave it my all, but it didn't work out. Otherwise, I'll be kicking myself forever."

Then he said something that gave me chills.

“I’m more afraid of the answers to ‘what’s the worst thing that could happen if I DON’T make a change.’

I’m afraid that I’ll miss important moments in our kids’ lives. Their memory of me will be that I’m always working and never around. I’m afraid our relationship will deteriorate.”

😢

“We only get one life, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make the best of it.”

Then he got excited talking about the upside.

“What’s the BEST that could happen? I could build a business that generates double, triple, maybe even ten times what I’m earning today. There’s no limit.”

“I’ll build a team that can run the day-to-day. I’ll treat them well to create a stable environment. That’ll give us freedom to spend time however we want. We can take that trip to Europe we’ve always dreamed about. I can be home for dinner every night.”

Here’s what John understands that most people miss:

There is no better investment than yourself.

You literally can’t lose if you don’t give up.

John has been a winner over his entire corporate career. Multiple raises, promotions, & awards. All while building someone else’s dream.

So what do you think’s gonna happen when he puts that effort into building his own dream?

John is going to crush it.

Will it be easy?

No, he’s probably going to work harder for the first 6 months than he ever has in his life.

And that’s okay since it’s not just a paycheck anymore — he's building a foundation.

A foundation that will support his family for the next decade or more.

If you’re in John’s shoes right now, sitting in your job, wondering “what if…” you already know the answer.

The only question is: are you going to do something about it?
