Can I be honest with you?
I spent 2 years making YouTube videos in my office because I was afraid to go into the shops.
I thought it would be awkward, viewed as selfish, and I’d lose their respect.
But recently that’s changed.
I’ve had many employees tell me how much they love the videos. Some even watch with their kids!
This is the definition of the “Law of Polarity."
For every potential outcome, an equal and opposite outcome exists....
Fear scenario: My team loses respect because I’m making videos instead of improving the business. We lose great people, revenue & profit drops. I become the selfish person I was afraid of appearing to be.
Opposite scenario: The team thinks it’s awesome. They’re excited when I stop by to shoot. The content becomes a magnet for great people and deals. It accelerates business growth.
The Law of Polarity applies to every decision in business:
- Hiring that key person
- Expanding into a new market
- Buying that distressed location
Our brains are programmed to play defense.
They see something unfamiliar and scream “DANGER DANGER.”
Unfortunately, our brains give the fear scenario 10X more weight.
You play out the worst-case scenario in vivid detail while ignoring the best-case scenario.
I faced the exact same mental battle when buying my 3rd store, opening my first shop from zero, expanding into a new market, and hiring a COO.
But opening my 2nd, 3rd, & 4th location from zero? No fear at all
Expanding into a 2nd new market? I was excited!
In reality, the worst case rarely happens, and the upside scenarios are often bigger than you projected
From my “silly” YouTube videos:
- Yesterday, I was sent four soon-to-be vacant Goodyears
- A broker is actively cold-calling competitors for me
- Multiple partnership/investment opportunities
The skill isn’t eliminating fear. It’s recognizing when your brain is giving the fear scenario unfair weight.
Then doing it anyway.
This is the key to getting rich. You make money in direct correlation to your willingness to push outside your comfort zone.
Otherwise, you’ll be stuck at your current income level forever.
Last thing: Want to hang with me in Austin Feb 19-20? I’ve got a few tickets left for a small in-person event I’m hosting.
You must be a current franchisee who’s serious about growth.
Reply here. I'll send you details.
Cheers!
