I own 35 shops and have never fixed a car


Not once (unless you count changing taillights)

Luckily for everyone, my job isn't to fix cars.

It's to find great people who are.

Then pay them well and give them benefits worth sticking around for.

But that doesn't mean I don't work my butt off in the shop.

I’d help pull cars in and out. Take tires off. Deliver parts. Hold stuff 👇

Whatever I can do to make their job easier.

Here’s what I actually spend my time on:

Making sure we spend enough on marketing to get the phone to ring.

Having proper training and accountability so the people answering phones tell customers to come in today.

Selecting great physical locations. Investing in the best equipment. Picking the right insurance.

And most importantly, making sure we never, ever run out of cash.

At the end of the day, our mechanics do the most important work.

The rest of us would just be sitting there staring at each other without them.

The owner’s job isn’t to do the work. It’s to build the machine that does the work.

  • Find the right people
  • Give them the tools to succeed
  • Remove obstacles from their path
  • Keep the cash flowing

Running a business is a team sport.

Don’t get hung up on the fact that you aren’t a "technical" founder.

Some of the best franchise owners I know came from corporate jobs that had nothing to do with their business.

They brought leadership. Systems thinking. The ability to build teams.

Technical skills get you to one location.

Leadership skills get you to 10+
