How I broke through the invisible barrier

A rocket ship burns 90% of its fuel to get off the ground.

But once it hits orbit, it takes almost no energy to keep moving at incredible speed.

Business works the same way.

The grind to $1M: 60+ hour weeks. High stress. Phone ringing 100 times a day.

Customer complaints. Lawsuits. Employee drama.

After burning 90% of your fuel, you think: “All this work for no money? Maybe I picked the wrong business…”

That was me for years.

Then something clicked.

I realized I couldn’t eliminate the tasks. The only solution was to hire someone else to deal with the BS.

But I couldn’t afford another person without taking a major pay cut.

Chicken-egg problem.

Here’s the plan I created:

I was making $12,000/month.

Hiring would cost $8,000/month all-in (payroll, taxes, benefits, vehicle).

I’d grind until I hit $17,000/month profit, then hire and drop back to $9,000/month.

Net cost: $3,000/month to get 30+ hours back.

Instead of putting out fires, I invested that time into the big rocks that actually grow the business.

Pursued two more acquisitions and opened a new store.

Income doubled. Business continued growing.

I finally broke through the invisible barrier.

Then the compounding kicked in.

As your business grows, it affords better quality people.

Those people don’t just take stuff off your plate; they move the business forward without you.

As it grows further, you can hire even higher-quality people.

Everyone knows compound interest.

Few understand the power of compound leadership.

Great leaders raise the level of the business, which attracts more leaders, and the cycle continues.

The numbers:

8 years to hit $50M in revenue.

Our 3-year goal: Add another $50M — $100M total.

"We harness the power of compound growth" is principle #5 of the 8-Figure Franchisee Code

We realize there's no better investment than ourselves and our business, not chasing shiny new objects.

I don’t care that I’ll never be on the cover of Fortune Magazine or that "Beers Tire & Auto" will never exist. I’m okay with that. Everyone has great ideas. But there’s no money in great ideas. 100% of the money is in the execution of ideas. I don’t waste time on trying to innovate or invent. I focus 100% my energy on execution. Just show me how to make money and I’ll do it. I don’t care about cars, paint, or turf. This is why franchising is perfect for me. I don’t want to reinvent the wheel....

I don’t care how much my business is worth. In my mind, it’s "worthless" until the day we sell. My focus is on monthly cash flow. Cash flow is what I use to pay my mortgage, provide for my family, go on vacation, and live life on my terms. It’s what I use to invest in expanding our footprint and pile into index funds. Some people chase after zero-cash-flow, high-equity plays. Software that could go to the moon. The next Bitcoin project. Those businesses generate zero cash flow, hoping to...

Most franchise owners think they’re building a business. They’re actually building a job with more stress and longer hours. The difference? Your ability to find and develop leaders vs. hire followers. Here’s what I mean: When you hire followers, you get people who: Wait for instructions Escalate every decision to you Clock in and clock out mentally View the business as “yours,” not “ours” When you develop leaders, you get people who: Solve problems before they reach you Make decisions within...
